Things You Should Know

Cottage Life at Straggle Inn

Cottage life brings its special pleasures, and its unique characteristics! To make your stay more enjoyable, the following are things you should be aware of.

Phone, Cell Phone and Internet Access

Cell service in the Park is very limited. There is a phone at the cottage for LOCAL calls only. If you are making any long distance calls, we suggest that you bring a calling card to charge the call to your own number, or bring a long distance calling card.

There is high speed internet service available at the cottage through Bell Canada. We will provide you with information on how to access the internet when you arrive at the cottage.

Hospitals

In case of an emergency, there is 911 service within the park. There are two hospitals:

  • Haliburton: Haliburton Hospital is the primary health care facility for this area
  • Bancroft: Quinte Health Care North Hastings Hospital is secondary

TV/Satellite

There is a DVD/TV/Satellite at the cottage. However, you will have to bring your own movies and DVD's. Bring your own books, games, cards, and puzzles to keep you and your family occupied if there are any rainy days. There are several day trips you can take as well for the rainy days.

Cleaning the Cottage

Leave the cottage the way you found it. In our standard rental arrangement, we do not charge you a cleaning cost, so we need you to take a few minutes and make sure the cottage is as clean as when you arrived. If you do not wish to do this, let us know, and we will arrange for someone to come in on your departure to clean up—however, we will have to charge you an additional $100 and we will require adequate notice to arrange for a visit from a local service provider.

Damage

Any damage to the building, its equipment, furnishings, fixtures and other contents as a result of negligence, misuse or neglect will be your responsibility to pay.

Check in and Check out

Our check in and check out is on Friday. Check in is Friday at 4 pm. Check out is Friday at the end of your stay at 11 am. We need the time in between to check the cottage and to make sure everything is ready for the next renter. We ask that you respect these times.

What do I need to bring?

Bedding, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap and bath soap are provided. We also have a good assortment of kitchen ware, dishes and glasses. You should however be sure to bring all personal toiletries, bug repellent, sunscreen, beach towels, food for your stay, kitchen supplies, such as condiments, sugar and spices, clothing, movies, DVDs, games, hiking clothes, bikes, walking shoes, etc.

Smoking

Since the odours associated with smoking linger within a building, and are unsafe for other renters, we have a strict “no smoking” policy inside the cottage. Smoking is allowed outside the cottage where the smoke does not come into the cottage.

Pets

Please advise us before booking if you plan on bringing ANY pets. We are animal lovers, but pets must be pre-authorized before bringing with you. If your pet is permitted, please keep your pet in control, off the road and neighbors' property, and clean up after it. Keep your pet off the furniture and beds, and do not leave your pet alone in the cottage. Remember, any damage caused by your critter will be charged back to you.

Guests

This cottage will accommodate a maximum of 6 people. We are confined to this number not only because of building limitations, but also because Harcourt Park Bylaws restrict the number of guests we can have.

Campfire

There is a campfire pit on the lake side of the cottage. Evening fire is only permitted in this designated area, and must be kept relatively small. There is firewood available, should you run out, please let us know. There are burn restrictions in place throughout the summer, and these can change on a daily basis. There is a sign on the road into Harcourt Park that tells you what the current fire hazard is and fire restrictions are either posted near the sign or are available from the marina. Please remember that camp fires are to be supervised at all times and happen only in the campfire pit. It's your job to know if there is a fire ban in effect, and to adhere to it. Use only the wood and kindling designated for the camp fire. Always douse fire thoroughly before leaving it.

Parking

There is a large driveway and ample room for parking. But, please park in the appropriate area (anywhere where there is gravel).
